Let's start the New Year off with some good news. I read this article and thought it was great news for chocolate lovers like myself. I had stopped drinking hot chocolate because today there are so many ingredients I don't want in my body. One company has 76 chemicals in hot chocolate. Then Dr. Leonard Coldwell asked the "Just Like Sugar" Company to make pure hot chocolate. I must tell you it is delicious, simply dark chocolate, no dairy, and pure organic vanilla bean. The first time I drank it, it reminded me of my childhood when we didn't have all these chemicals in our food. Because its also made with Just Like Sugar (chicory, orange peel, Vitamin C from organic oranges and calcium) you don't have to add sugar. You can go to http://www.justlikesugarinc.com and put in your zip code and it will tell you where it's sold in your city or you can get it on line. So here is something you like that is good for you - and read the article below!

"Absolutely cuckoo for cocoa. Harvard University health experts have pronounced the soothing drink a medical miracle in a cup. Chock-full of biochemicals that promote good health, cocoa can combat diabetes, strokes and heart attacks, says an analysis of 21 cocoa studies led by Harvard Medical School researcher Eric Ding.

Lower Blood Pressure

The Analysis, which includes data from nearly 2600 people, reveals that regular consumption of cocoa can control many causes of stroke and heart disease. Cocoa can lower blood pressure, maintain healthy blood vessels, reduce the levels of damaging LDL cholesterol and increase the levels of healthy HDL cholesterol. It can also stave off insulin resistance, the major cause of diabetes, which often leads to coronary disease.

Cocoa's healing power has been linked to its high levels of antioxidants called polyphenolic flavonoids. Antioxidants are biochemicals that can prevent cell damage caused by rogue molecules which have been spun off during normal chemical reactions in the body. In addition to cocoa, flavonoids can commonly be found in tea, wine, coffee, fruits and vegetables.

Furthermore, a Harvard Medical School professor has recently linked another cocoa compound, called epicatechin, with combating four of the five most common causes of death - cancer, stroke, diabetes and heart failure.

Professor Norman Hollenberg made this discovery while tracking the Kuna people of Panama, who drink up to 40 cups of coca a week. Everything else being equal, the Kuna people's love of cocoa has slashed their chances of cancer, stroke, diabetes and heart failure to less than 10 percent. Epicatechin can also be found in teas, wine, chocolate and some fruits and vegetables. "Epicatechin could potentially get rid of four of the five most common diseases in the Western world," says Hollenberg. "How important is epicatechin? It could rival the importance of penicillin and anesthesia."

Furthermore, a study in England showed how epicatechin can also ward off Alzheimer's disease by preventing sticky proteins, called amyfold plaques, from gumming up the brain's communication network.

We've found that epicatechin protects brain cells from damage," says study leader Dr. Robert Williams, of the Wolfson Center for Age Related Diseases at Kings College."
