I have the GAO Report. It seems the only way Searle could prevent indictment and get aspartame on the market was hire anyone who stood in their way. As you recall, both US Prosecutors, Sam Skinner and William Conlon hired on with the defense team and the statute of limitations expired.

The actual GAO Report is very large but one page in the beginningsays it all, and that was that the GAO was in no position to investigate the science or the safety of aspartame, just how things were done. So they use the GAO report to their benefit and never mention it had nothing to do whatsoever with the safety of aspartame.

Like I told Acting Commissioner Michael Friedman who eventually went to work as VP of Searle for something like $500,000 a year, they didn't need a revolving door anymore, they could build a bridge to take care of the traffic. Why did he get this job. Michael Friedman knew about the brain tumors in original studies, and I sent him lots of cases of aspartame brain tumors where he was Acting Commissioner. Then in 1996, 60 Minutes did an expose of aspartame when Dr. John Olney made world news about the brain tumor association with aspartame in his Neurology Report. Michael Friedman had the gall to get on 60 Minutes and say there was no association even though its a matter of record. By this time, Monsanto owned NutraSweet, bought from Searle in l985. This no doubt was his reward about three years after he lied on 60 Minutes.
